3TS Fund Invests EUR 4 Million in Avangate

3TS Capital Partners

3TS Capital Partners, the Growth Capital Investor for Central and Eastern Europe, has announced that its Technology in Central and Eastern Europe Fund S.C.A. SICAR, informally known as 3TS Cisco Growth Fund, has invested in Avangate, provider of electronic software distribution and partner management solutions, by acquiring a minority stake in the firm. As a result of the transaction, Avangate will receive € 4 million in equity over the next 6 months.

Witology Gets USD 5m Series A Funding from ONEXIM and Sputnik

Russia's Sputnik Group and ONEXIM have joined together to provide series A funding to Witology, a technology startup developing new ways of using social networking to solve problems. The two investors will provide USD 5 million which will allow Witology to continue research and development, carry the project through beta testing, and eventually launch their platform. As a result of the deal, Sputnik will control 8.94% while ONEXIM's share will be 41%. The remaining 50.06% will remain with Witology founders Alexander Oslon and Sergey Karelov.

Tiger Global Management Leads Series C Funding for GetJar

GetJar, an app provider for dozens of smart-phone platforms, has announced series C funding which will provide tens of millions of dollars to aid in expansion, sales and marketing, and engineering plans. Tiger Global Management is providing USD 25 million for this series, just a month after announcing a USD 6 million investment in Letsbuy.com, and Indian e-retailer of digital technology products.

BaltCap Sells eKool to Estonian Investors

Following a successful five-year investment, BaltCap's Baltic SME Fund has completed a successful exit from Estonian education platform eKool. BaltCap acquired eKool from the Vaata Maailma Foundation in November 2005. The educational company's new owner is Kriit OÜ, a group of several private investors from Estonia. During the period of BaltCap's ownership, eKool has made great strides in developing its platform and seeing it integrated into large portions of the Estonian educational system.

General Atlantic Acquires 20% of Kaspersky Lab

American investment firm General Atlantic joins the company of a very small number of foreign investors who have taken on Russian projects, with the recent announcement regarding the acquisition of a significant stake in Kaspersky Lab. General Atlantic has acquired a 20% stake in the company for an amount that could be as high as USD 200 million. With the completion of the transaction they will be the second-largest shareholder after CEO Eugene Kaspersky, who owns 50%.

WebVisor Startup Becomes Part of Yandex Family

In a move that strengthens its position in the Russian-speaking Internet market, Yandex has acquired Web analytics startup WebVisor at a cost of ca. $0.5 million. Yandex made the deal with the startup's owner, Visor Ltd., after WebVisor attended the Yandex.Start program. The program was initiated by Yandex last year as a means of giving promising technology startups the opportunity to join them.

Hivext Cloud Platform Marks Second Investment for Runa Capital

Russia's Runa Capital, a new VC firm with only four months under its belt, has announced an investment in cloud computing firm Hivext. The investment marks the second for Runa, following last month's USD 2 million investment in OnAir3G; a software development firm working on a voice activated social networking platform. Runa Capital was joined by Almaz Capital Partners in this round to contribute a total of USD 500,000. The new funding will help keep Hivext on schedule for commercial release in 2011.

Runa Capital Makes First Investment in Russian Start-up

Russia's newest venture capital firm, Runa Capital, has announced its first investment in a Moscow-based start-up active in the social networking arena. The investment will be USD 2 million in venture capital for OnAir3G, developers of a cutting-edge networking platform. The founder of OnAir3G , Andrey Vasilevsky, was one of the original founders of SmartCom, which Russia's Yandex recently purchased.
